MUSIC 2016 - 2017

Miss Evans

September 2016

Welcome to our music page!  Here you'll find information about what we are learning, examples of our work and updates to our performances and events.

What we are studying this term...

In Nursery and Reception, this term we are focusing our listening skills through music and movement. Using Dalcroze inspired techniques and equipment like scarves, balls, hoops, feathers and lycra.

In Year 1 students are beginning to explore the rhythms of speech with a particular focus on Rap. They will contrast and compare different musical pieces and experiment with their own Rap ideas.

In Year 2, students are beginning to refine their singing technique through call and response activities and songs. Alongside this, children will be encouraged to accompany given melodies on pitched percussion instruments.

In Year 3 and 4 pupils are continuing to extend their vocal understanding through the genre of Reggae. With a focus on ‘Three Little Birds’ by Bob Marley, pupils will sing, accompany and improvise using the song as the stimulus.

Year 5 and 6 pupils are on a rhythmical journey of discovery through the means of drumming circle facilitation. This involves the spontaneous creation of music on a variety of drums and percussion instruments, fostering listening skills, respect, patience and cooperation.

A big thank you to you all for your continued support and enthusiasm. Please feel free to contact me should you require any further information regarding music activities or clubs.
