Welcome to Reception!

The staff in Reception are Mrs Wilding and Miss Wignall.

Times of the day

The EYFS door will be open at 8:45am and will close promptly at 8:55am ready for the school day to start. The children finish school at 3:15pm.

It is important that your child is in school on time and your child is collected on time at the end of the day as children often become distressed if they are collected late. If you are running late, please contact the school office by phoning 01517093672.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club is FREE for all children. It starts at 8am each morning. Reception children who attend breakfast club will be taken to their class at 8.45am.

If your child is ill, please inform us by phoning the school office on 0151 7093672. Please ensure that school has your up to date contact details in case your child is ill during school.

Our children enjoy continuous snack each day. We ask for a contribution of £1 per child per week to make sure this can continue. Snack money needs to be paid in cash please on a Monday morning. Please give to a member of Early Years Staff.

Please ensure all items of clothing are labelled, including coats and shoes. It is very difficult to identify lost items of clothing if they are not labelled.

Our P.E day is a Thursday. To make life easier for everyone we are asking that your child comes in to school with their P.E kit on on their P.E day.

Children are not allowed to bring their own toys to Reception as this can cause upset. However, we love to see things that the children have made at home or have found whilst out and about. These items can be bought into school to share with the rest of the class.

In the EYFS Unit we love to inspire creativity and our modelling area is always a popular area. If you have any recycling materials at home, please pop them into the large box under the shelter.

Our theme for this half term is 'Trasnport' which we know the children will really enjoy.

If you have any concerns or worries, please speak to one of us when you drop your child off in the morning or collect them in the afternoon.

Below is a litle insight in to what we will be covering this half term

This half term we will be learning about welcoming people to our school and to God’s family through Baptism. We will be role playing baptism ceremonies, writing invitations and making candles in different creative ways. We will also be exploring birthdays as we prepare for Christmas celebrations. We will learn the Nativity story and perform it for our parents.

Throughout our transport topic there will be lots of opportunities for the children to apply their phonic knowledge. As a class we have learnt m,a,s,d,t,i, n. This half term we will be learning p,g,o,c,k,u,b,f,e, l, h,sh,r, j and v and hopefully many more. We are beginning to put sounds together now to make three letter words, such as mat, sad and dig.

We will be reading lots of books about Transport and going places. We will be using our phonic knowledge to label pictures of transport we have used to travel to school. Our Talk for writing focus book is called ‘The Train Ride’. We will have a role play train station and hot air balloon in our unit and will be using these for opportunities to read and write We will also be making a train with the sounds in our name on each carriage. As we move towards Christmas we will be writing a wish list to Santa as well as talking and writing about how we believe the wish lists will be transported to the North Pole. We hope to receive a response from Santa before we break up for the holidays. As we approach the Christmas holidays children will start to bring reading books home.

We will be working on counting to 20 and matching numerals to groups of objects. We will be using Numicon to support our number recognition. We will then move on to adding together two one digit numbers. We will be exploring addition through our topic, children will need to work out how many passengers are on the bus by adding together how many were already on and how many got on to find the total. They will also be using their addition skills in the train station role play to buy tickets and snacks. Following this we will be exploring 2D shapes to make forms of transport and fireworks during our Diwali and Bonfire Night Celebrations.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

We will be learning how different forms of transport move and experimenting with making our own. We will learn about other families and cultures by sharing our experiences. We will explore technology by learning to use the I-pads, internet programmes, cameras and story phones. We will observe our school area as it changes from Autumn to Winter and talk about the changes.

This half term we will be continuing our agility, balance and co-ordination skills during PE and time in the outside learning environment. This half term we will be continuing our agility, balance and co-ordination skills during PE and the outside learning environment. We will have Funky Fingers task each week to make our fingers strong and improve our fine motor skills. We will use our formation station to make our fingers strong for writing. We will be challenging each other to put coats and shoes on independently in the quickest time. Of a morning

This term we are focusing on falling out and making up. We continue to focus on our feelings and how to express them. We are also focusing on how to be a good friend and how to resolve conflict situations peacefully where both sides are happy with the end result. We are taking part in the NSPCC ‘Stay safe, speak out,’ training where Reception will learn what to do if they have any worries. The police are also visiting to talk about Halloween and Bonfire safety.

Expressive Arts and Design

This half term we will be exploring lots of art. We will be making firework biscuits and using breadsticks and chocolate to create sparklers. We will be making firework pictures using straws, poms poms and pipe cleaners. We will also be using sponge painting to make poppies pictures in respect of Remembrance Day. To support our transport topic we will be making different vehicles using various construction materials such as large wooden blocks, junk modelling and salt rock models. As we approach Christmas we will be making tree decorations, Christmas cards and calendars.
