Welcome to Reception!

The staff in Reception are Miss McClelland and Miss Simms.

English

This half term, we will be learning all about life ON THE FARM. 

 
In Talk for Writing, we will be focusing on the book, The Little Red Hen. We will learn to tell the story using a story map and actions, sequence the story, answer questions about the story and learn lots of new vocabulary. We will then innovate the story to change it and make it our own. We will also learn facts about farm animals and learn some animal poems.
 
In Read Write Inc phonics, we will be revising Set 1 alphabet sounds and using them to read and write CVC words eg. cat, dog, man. We will also be reading and writing words with digraphs in (two letters, one sound) eg. ch, sh, th, qu, ng, nk. We will be reading short ditties and will start to take home reading books. Some of us will be learning Set 2 sounds eg. ay, ee, igh, ow, oo, oo, ar, or, air, ou, oy. 

Maths

In Maths, we will be adding and subtracting numbers and looking at the composition of numbers up to 10. These are our number bonds. We will be using 10 frames, part whole models, pictures and objects. We will be counting forwards and backwards to 20, starting at different numbers. We will be doubling and sharing. We will be looking at numerical patterns, eg. odd and even numbers, counting in 2s. We will also compare numbers that may look different, eg. 5 apples to a Numicon 7.

Come and See

We will be looking at Good News. We will explore that everyone has good news to share. We will reveal Petecost, the celebration of the Good News of Jesus. We will respond to the celebration of Pentecost and sharing of Good News.We will be looking at Friends. We will explore that we can make good friends. We will reveal that Jesus had good friends and what Jesus tells us about friendship. We will respond to having good friends and what Jesus tells us about friendship. 

Get Set For Life 

We will be looking at Relationships.
In Journey in Love, we will be looking at the wonder of being special and unique. 
 

Understanding the World

We will also be taking time to celebrate special times. We will look at Eid, a celebration that many of our children and families have in Islam. We will celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III, important for our country. We will also celebrate Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool, singing, dancing, learning about Liverpool and looking at the culture of Ukraine. 

Music

We will be looking at the topic of ‘Big Bear Funk’. We will also learn the Nursery Rhymes: Old MacDonald, Baa Baa Black Sheep and Five Little Ducks.

PE

PE will be on a Tuesday. Children will need to come to school wearing their PE clothes on this day. We will be working with Mersey Mavericks in Basketball. We will be improving our throwing, catching, aiming and dribbling skills. 

Homework

The children will receive homework throughout the week. This will begin with sounds they are learning, handwriting and mouse club activities initially. Later this will include reading ditties and short sentences, reading books and topic based homework. When your child receives a reading book please spend 5 minutes each night reading with them, if you need support in the best way to help your child with reading or learning speak to a member of staff.
