Miss Holme

Welcome to Year 1/2!

Our teachers are Miss Holme and Mrs Lynch.

This half term we will be covering:



This half term there will be a Geography link to our Literacy lessons. We will be reading  'The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch and other Lighthouse Keeper stories by Ronda Armitage.

From these fiction books we will be writing postcards, instructions and retelling stories as well as making our own stories up about living in a lighthouse.

We have daily phonic lessons which are carried out in Read Write Inc as well as daily guided reading sessions to look at reading comprehension as well as handwriting and grammar.

Every Monday from their RWInc lessons your child will get spellings to learn at home. Can these please be returned every Friday.



Year 1 children-

Shape- Recognise and name common 3-D shapes, including for example, cuboids, cubes pyramids and spheres.

Geometry-position and direction- Describe position, direction and movement, including whole, half, quarter and three-quarter turns.

Revisit areas of Maths children need consolidating.

Year 2 children-

Revisit areas of Maths children need consolidating.



Our topic this term will continue to be 'Plants.' 

Pupils will:

-Identify and name a variety of common wild and garden plants, including deciduous and evergreen trees.

-Identify and describe the basic structure of a variety of common flowering plants, including trees.

-Observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants.

-Find out and describe how plants need water, light and suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy.


-The lives of significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements.:

-Grace Darling-Who is she and how is she significant?



We will be carrying out Geographical Skills & Fieldwork by-

-using simple compass directions (North, South, East and West) and locational and directional language (for example, near and far; left and right), to describe the location of features and routes on a map.

-using aerial photographs and plan perspectives to recognise landmarks and basic human and physical features; devise a simple map; and use and construct basic symbols in a key.

-using simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of their school and its grounds and the key human and physical features of its surrounding environment.

Our Come and See topics are 'Being Sorry' and 'Neighbours'.



P.E. is every Friday afternoon so P.E. kits will need to be brought in on this day every week.
