Y3/4MF 2016 - 2017

Mr Farrell

The staff in our class this year:

Teacher: Mrs V Burns

LSA: Jon Smith

Welcome back! We are now rapidly approaching Advent and have a very enjoyable seven and a half weeks of learning ahead of us.

Come and See

In Come and See, we will be exploring the sacrament of Confirmation during the topic 'Called'. This topic will be very helpful when some of our children begin their sacramental work with Father John in the next few weeks.

This half term, we will be building on our recent learning and further developing our skills of inference and deduction when reading. Our main focus this half term in reading will be on our novels - either 'Street Child' or 'Fair's Fair'. In spelling, children will continue to work on the spellings given to them either in their Read Write Inc Spelling session or in their Read Write Inc Phonics lesson. In writing, we will be continuing to look at writing cohesive pieces, which include the correct grammar and punctuation. We will be looking for these skills to be applied across all areas of our curriculum. As always, we will also be looking to further develop those cursive handwriting skills so that a pen will be granted!

In Maths, we will be further developing our skills and understanding of multiplication and division. We will develop more efficient written methods and apply our skills in a range of ways. We will then be learning about fractions which is when our knowledge of our times tables and division facts really comes in useful! Times tables and number bonds are things that we would like you to be working on at home with your child.

In Science lessons, we will be investigating and furthering our knowledge of sound. Expect some noisy homework!!

We will be aiming to answer the question, 'Would you rather be a child now or a child in the past?' We will be learning about the life of a child through the ages. It would be great if people at home could share their experiences of life as a child when they were young and when their parents were young.

Children will be continuing to develop their programming skills; developing a character and producing their own game.

We will be continuing to work with Mr Stephen Manning (music director at the Anglican Cathedral) in order to perfect our songs for the Christmas Concert.

Children will once again be working with our Spanish teacher Melissa in order to develop their speaking and listening skills so that they are able to have short conversations.

In P.E., children will be honing their skills in Judo whilst also continuing with their weekly swimming lessons.

Monday & Wednesday - PE kit

Thursday - Swimming Kit

For Judo, it is ESSENTIAL that a full school PE kit is worn.

Children will be further developing their artwork by looking at the works of William Morris and using this as a backdrop for their own art pieces.

Should you wish to speak to any member of our staff regarding your child, please see the office to make an appointment - we are usually available at the end of each day to answer any questions.
