Welcome back! We hope that you have had a wonderful break and are ready for some fantastic learning!

Come and See

In Come and See, we will be exploring the topic of community. We will be looking at what it takes to be a part of a community. We will also be looking at different communities including the school and church communities that we belong to. Children who are preparing for their sacraments will also be continuing with their sessions with Father John.

This half term, we will be reading the Michael Murpogo novel, 'This Morning I met a Whale'. We will be continuing to develop our reading skills of inference and deduction as well as our writing skills. In writing, we will be further developing our skills of paragraphing and writing different types of sentences in order to create interest for our reader.

This half term, there is a great focus on shape and measurements. Children will be further developing their skills of reading scales and converting. In order to help your child at home, you could include them in some shopping activities such as weighing out fruit or reading measurements from cans and packets and converting them. It is also really important that your child is regularly practicing their basic maths skills such as number bonds and multiplication tables.

In Science, we will be studying animals and their habitats. We will be looking at different ways in which animals are categorised and linking our topic to our novel through the conservation of the whale.

We will be answering the question, 'How does water go round and around?' We will be studying the water cycle and using our mapping skills to locate major rivers both in England and globally.

This term, we will be learning to play the trumpet. These lessons are provided by a parapetetic teacher who is a specialist musician.

This half term will see a particular focus on E-Safety, with children learning how to keep themselves and others safe on the Internet.

Our PE days will be Wednesday and Friday- a full school PE kit is required for this.

This half term, we will be returning to our cycle of homework three nights per week,

ALL children will receive spellings on a Monday, these are to be completed and returned by Friday.

Wednesday will see mathematics homework - either linked to work in class or a particular basic skill. This must be returned on a Thursday.

Friday will be English homework - usually linked to a particular aspect of grammar or punctuation - this ought to be returned on Monday.

Many thanks for your support in this.

Should you wish to speak to any member of our staff regarding your child, please see the office to make an appointment - we are usually available at the end of each day to answer any questions.
