Welcome to Year 5/6LD.

This final half term, we will be continuing to develop the children's skills in a number of ways.


In English, we will continue with our novel study of Rick Riordan's 'The Titan's Curse', which is set against a background of gods and mythical creatures. The children will be exploring a range of genres including diary writing, non-chronological reports and narratives. Children will also be writing their own chapter of the novel based on their own prediction skills and knowledge of the characters. We will be also be working on developing our use of a range of punctuation including colons, semi colons and brackets. Children will continue to work on their spellings in a needs led Read Write Inc spelling group.


In Maths, we will be further consolidating the children's arithmetic skills, honing their written methods of calculations so that they are using the most efficient methods to calculate. Children will also be workijng on their mental maths skills, mentally calculating, recalling multiplication and division facts and showing an understanding of place value. 


In Science, we will be continuing ouer study of the Human Body, learning to identify key organs and explain their uses in the body. we will also be looking at how to keep our bodies safe in terms of the effects of smoking on the heart and lungs and also the effects of certain drugs and why we need/ should not take them. 


In Come and See this term, we will be continuing to look at Freedom and Responsibility in Year 5 and Healing in Year 6. Children will also be taking part in collective worship sessions daily.


Children will continue their study of Ancient Greece, asking 'What have I got to thank the Ancient Greeks for?' We will be exploring the Olympic games and linking this in with our PE sessions. Children will continue to develop the skills of research and questioning as we progress through the topic.


The children will continue to work with our visiting Spanish teacher on reading, writing and speaking Spanish.


In PE, children will be further developing their athletics skills. Throwing, jumping and running will be the main areas for development. Children MUST bring their full PE kit in on a Monday and take it home again on Friday to be washed.


Children will be using a range of augmented reality applications in order to develop their computing skills. They will also be designing history linked scenes using Minecraft.
