Welcome to Year 6JY class page!

We would like to welcome you to Year 6JY's class page. This page will keep you up to date with all the exciting things which will be happening this half term.

In Come and See lessons, we are beginning new topics; the first of which is 'Witnesses'. In this topic, we will explore howwitnessing events can be amazing, but also be challenging and difficult. We will discover the role of the disciplesin bearing witness to Jesus'work.  The second topic we will look at this term is 'Healing'. In todays's world, there is a definite need for healing and we will discover how important religious figures have dedicated their lives to helping others,

In English, we are beginning a new novel study through the book, 'Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters' by Rick Riordan. There book is the follow up to 'The Lightening Thief' and we will explore Percy's quest to save Camp Half-Blood and his friends.

In Mathematics, we will be looking at statistics and revising all the topics we have studied this year in preparation for SATs in May.  There will be a daily mathematics lesson and an additional basic skill session during each day.

In Science we will be covering the topic of Living Things with a focus on the circulatory and respiratory systems; staying healthy and investigation work.,

PE this half term will be on a Wednesday and Friday. It is essential that your child has a PE kit to take part in these sessions, one of which will be athletics, including appropriate footwear ( pumps or training shoes).

HOMEWORK - The main homework will be project based  around our topic, 'Why should we thank the Ancient Greeks?'. The children should spend time on either :

  1. a longer piece of writing,
  2. an art based  piece or
  3. a scrapbook style submission.

We are looking for originality and effort for the children to showcase what they have found out.

Spellings will continue to be given out by the children's spelling group teacher on Mondays and this should be returned on Fridays.

If  you have any questions, please feel free to talk to myself or Miss Bibby by arranging an appointment.

Thank you,

Mrs Young

Ps. Do not forget to listen to your child regularly at home. Children can bring their home reader in to change as often as they would like. Please remenber to sign the reading card they will be given with their book.
