In Come and See lessons, we are beginning new topics; the first of which is 'Witnesses' in which we will explore the experience of witnessing events which may involve difficult choices. After this, we will look at the experience of the apostles after Jesus' death and how modern day witnesses live out Jesus' message today.

English lessons will incorporate a balance of reading and writing skills and our class novel is Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them. We will be writing information and explanation texts as well as developing our skills of persuasio.

In Mathematics, we will be looking 3D shape and also reading co-ordinates. In addition to this, we will be revising all areas we have covered so far this year. Homework will be set regularly in mathematics in preparation for the SAT tests in May.

In Science we will be covering the topic of Evolution and Inheritance. Children will learn about key scientists such as Charles Darwin and Mary Anning whose work was revolutionary in this field. They will also consolidate and enhance their skills as investigators - looking for patterns and relationships and making predictions and conclusions.

As geographers, we will study the environmental change annd will look specifically at the Amazon rainforest. We will explore issues such as deforestation and its impact locally, nationally and globally.

PE this half term will be on Mondays and Fridays. It is essential that your child has a PE kit to take part in these sessions ( including appropriate footwear - pumps or training shoes.

HOMEWORK - The main homework will be project based  around our topic about the Rainforest.  The children should spend time on either :

  1. a longer piece of writing,
  2. an art based  piece or
  3. a scrapbook style submission.

We are looking for originality and effort for the children to showcase what they have found out.

It is highly recommended that your child always has a full kit in school, bringing it in on a Monday and taking it home on a Friday as this is beneficial in the case of incidental opportunities for exercise. If, for any reason, your child is unable to do PE, we would appreciate it if you could send a note in to the class teacher explaining the expected duration of this inability to participate.

Should you ever wish to discuss anything about your child or their learning journey, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Year 6 team in order to arrange an appointment. I will be on the exit gate most evenings or, you can contact the office if you wish to request an appointment.
