Spanish

Learning a language enriches the curriculum. It provides excitement, enjoyment and challenge for children and teachers, helping to create enthusiastic learners and to develop positive attitudes to language learning throughout life.

At our school, we are very fortunate to have Melissa who is a native Spanish speaker come in and teach our lessons.

Year 3

In Year 3 pupils are able to recognise and use Spanish in a variety of ways. They continue to improve their speaking and listening skills and are beginning to develop basic reading and writing skills.

Year 4

In Year 4 pupils continue to improve their speaking and listening skills and are developing their confidence in reading and writing through a range of topics.  They are encouraged to use a model to help promote sentence building skills.

Year 5

In Year 5 all four skill areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing have been developed through a range of topics.  Pupils are encouraged to begin producing longer sentences and to express simple opinions and to speak and write with less teacher support to speak and write from memory.

Year 6

In Year 6 all four skill areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing have been developed through a wide range of topics.  Pupils are encouraged to speak and write in longer sentences, sometimes using connectives and to express opinions with justifications.  They are working with increasing independence.
