CAFOD Live Simply Award

After two years of hard work, we were awarded this prestigious award in a collective worship by Archbishop Malcolm in December 2021. Within school and in the wider community, we had been working to Live Simply, Live Sustainably and Live in Solidarity with the Poor, recognising Pope Francis’ actions from Laudato Si. Despite having to change some of our actions because of the pandemic, we ended as we began the award, by saying the Live Simply prayer. We achieved the Fairtrade Fair Active award, grew an allotment, held a School Unplugged Day without electric devices, celebrated Refugee Awareness Week virtually, created posters to save water and raised money for CAFOD. It was featured in the Catholic Pic on page 24-25 from January 2022:  https://issuu.com/merseymirror/docs/catholic_pic_january_2022_64cdb783c3a27c

RE Quality Mark Silver

We are delighted to have been awarded the RE Silver Quality Mark in recognition for the RE that we provide at Holy Family in January 2021. Our assessor looked at Teaching, Learning, Curriculum and Subject Leadership. They commented that, “By linking the Come and See curriculum with Restorative Thinking, the staff are providing children opportunities to express their views, to respectfully listen to others and to empathise, so that they can deepen their understanding of their own and others’ faiths.”

School Mental Health Award Gold

We are delighted to have been awarded Gold status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in schools, which acknowledges that, “School leaders and governors have a clear mental health and wellbeing vision of what they want for the school and this drives decision-making.” We place a huge value on relationships at Holy Family Primary School and are pleased that this has been recognised.

School of Sanctuary

Holy Family is a School of Sanctuary – a school committed to being a safe and welcoming place for all families who attends Holy Family. This could be people whose lives were in danger in their own country, who have troubles at home or are just looking for a space of safety.

As a School of Sanctuary, we make sure that all children and families feel safe at Holy Family.  We are a restorative school where we believe that relationships are at the heart of everything we do.  We ensure that all our pupils feel valued and celebrate our uniqueness in a diverse and vibrant community. We also ensure that we provide a parents’ room where there is a safe place for our families to come together to learn or to talk about concerns.

Educate Awards

At Holy Family, we believe that the whole child is to be nurtured – academically, socially and emotionally.  We provide a therapeutic counselling service and work closely with CAMHS and the Mental Health Support Teams within Liverpool.  At Holy Family we provide several therapeutic interventions – Person Centred Counselling, CBT, Drawing and Talking, Lego Therapy and Therapy in Play (outside agency). As a result, we have been nominated for Educate Awards for Mental Health and Wellbeing in 2021..

Liverpool Counts Quality Mark Gold

Here at Holy Family, we are extremely proud of our Liverpool Counts Quality Mark Gold Award which was awarded to us in December 2021. The specific remit of the Quality Mark is to tackle the negative attitudes which are prevalent in many areas of our society towards numeracy and mathematics. We aim to challenge these widely held views and promote a culture where people readily understand the impact good numeracy skills and mathematics qualifications can have on the social, financial, health and employment aspects of their lives.

As part of the award, we received a visit from an assessor who commented, ‘From the moment I arrived at the school, it was made clear that this is a school that values maths.’ In each area of our school, it was noticed how maths is at the heart of our learning. ‘I was told as we walked into EYFS, “maths is everywhere in here” and this, indeed, was the case!’ Our children’s love of maths is clear for all to see. ‘The ambassadors are incredibly enthusiastic about their role and their love of maths is evident.’ One comment which made us most proud, was the way in which Holy Family is viewed by our parents. ‘Parents feel incredibly well supported by the school and one told me that “Holy Family is our family.”’

Writing Quality Mark Gold

In July 2021, our school achieved the Writing Quality Mark Gold award. This award recognises that school provides a stimulating writing curriculum which encourages writing for purpose and pleasure. Staff have encouraged our young writers to write to real audiences such as letters to authors, the prime minister and even a lockdown writing project! The assessors said that, “A highly consistent approach to the teaching of writing successfully impacts on pupil progress” and that “Displays support and celebrate learning with a strong focus on vocabulary development.”

Primary Science Quality Mark Gilt

The Primary Science Quality Mark programme ensures effective leadership of Science, enables schools to work together to share good practice and is supported by professional development led by local experts. It encourages teacher autonomy and innovation, while at the same time offering a clear framework for development. Schools that achieve PSQM demonstrate commitment and expertise in Science leadership, teaching and learning.
